Between seeing the newest bard kill a demon with nothing but a brass recorder, his own poor battle performance (Lots of missed shots) and the priestess not even giving his challenge a second thought, Lander is not feeling very on top of his game right now. In fact, the other bard getting all of the party's attention recently, and the priestess dismissing him with the wave of a hand have effected him on a psychological level. While everyone is cleaning up the mess, and checking what sick l00t was in the chest, Lander looks down at his rusty sword and crossbow and thinks "I can't be ignored anymore. I have to get better."

While everyone is settling back at the Manor, I am going to search around town for anyone who can improve weaponry. On top of this, I am going to listen in on any rumors involving anyone who can teach me to be more capable in combat. (I believe we still have that poison club, and a few other magic weapons that no one uses at the manor, maybe there's a way someone could alter them so I can use them?)

My days are also going to change. Instead of spending lazy days in the Manor and my nights at the Tavern, I am going to set up a sort of practice arena in the grounds around the Manor, with sacks of soil as practice dummies (do we have grounds in the Manor? I'm assuming so.) During the days I am going to train, and at nights I am going to go to the library and study up on anything that would help me in combat.

This change of habits is less of a change for the better, and more of a frantic obsession. Lander is fueled by the shame and anger that comes with being defeated so easily. Even when he sleeps, he is haunted by the memory of the priestess simply ignoring his challenge, which is magnified by his own subconscious. (What effects would this have on my character? Also, I'm guessing everyone else in the party would notice Lander getting so serious so quickly, since he usually is someone of a carefree guy.)

"I noticed your recent efforts to train and wanted to offer my assistance. My father was the greatest warrior I ever knew. He taught me much as a boy and I can try my best to relay his skill to you. Plus, I could always use a sparring partner."

Beric attributes his lack of luck and several near death experiences to his focus on protecting others and not any lack of skill. Often, he will place his shield in front of the man beside him and be hit himself.

Lander, dripping with sweat, turns to face Beric. "Teach me whatever you can, Pelor knows I need it."

Beric grabs two blunted blades from the walls of wherever you have been training and tosses one to you.

"Let us begin."

Beric rushes forward, intent to fight until one, or both, of you have dropped from exhaustion.
