Wellby's chat with Berric

OOC: This chat occurs after my chat with nym. Also after Berric being confronted by kimmuriel. (So finish that chat first berric) .For time reference purpose

Wellby starts looking round the fortress for Berric. Once he finds Berric. He goes up to Berric.

"We need to talk."

OOC: I had a huge response typed up and it got deleted because I wasn't signed in. Ugh. I'll try and recreate it.

Damn I'm far behind. First off I want to apologize because I've always been very indecisive and that is showing itself through Beric a lot. I'm trying to get better. Plus, Beric has always been a military leader. These moral decisions are new to him and I am personally trying very hard not to make him Lawful Stupid.

Also, imagine there's this pitbull. Pitbulls can be the nicest dogs in the wold but they can look pretty mean. No mater how nice a person thinks that dog is, he/she will be wary when bringing people they care about around the dog. That is sort of how Beric feels about Wellby. He'll come around in time most likely.

I'll be back after I finish the Kimmuriel conversaion.

Ooc: so I'm a pitbull then? Heh. No problem. I was just setting this up.

OOC: Pitbulls are awesome. Take it as a compliment. I like your character a lot.

OOC: We can pretend this took place after leaving the Underdark if you still want to have this conversation.

ooc: nope I'm good. I got half of what I needed to happen there. Unless you wanted a private chat.

OOC: I do since our characters don't have many interactions aside from glaring at each other.

Beric walks over and sits down beside Wellby while he is away from the group. Beric pulls out a pipe and begins to smoke it. He sits in silence for several moments trying to think of the right words. Finally, Beric begins speaking. "I'm stubborn. I tell myself to judge people by their actions and not my preconceptions but I didn't. I have wronged you. You were judged and guarded against since the day I laid eyes on you." Sorrow covers Beric's face as he takes a puff from the pipe. "It took another's cruelty to make me see that. I have no reason to believe that you have harmed anyone but our enemies and even then, it was normally swift." Beric lets out a deep, sad laugh. "My actions have disobeyed the teachings of Torm more than yours and I am his chosen king. But my beliefs shouldn't concern you. Believe and follow whomever or whatever you wish Wellby as long as innocent blood isn't spilled. We have a long road ahead of us."

"The world is about to be plunged into chaos and I need to be able to trust the people who surround me." Beric turns his head and makes eye contact with Wellby. "And I need you to trust in me."

OOC: Alright, let's get this ball rolling. Maybe we can defuse some bad feelings here.

Wellby gives Berric a hard look.
"Heh trust. Very hard thing to earn back Prince. Especially when that trust is tested with a years worth of distrust, having 2 of us treated like dirt to make you look good and using spies."

"Droop was caught as soon as he tried, I watched him for awhile to see what he did before I got the information out of him. Halia was a member of the Zhentarim guild. They have one of the best information networks this side of Faerun. Not surprising they know bout the city. Not like the spell forge was being kept a big secret by the miners. You use Nym/Shiall and I in your examples of *Wellby says in a mocking voice* 'I hate my sister being a warlock but look I have warlocks in my party too so I'm not all uptight.' Not exactly a compliment."

Wellby coughs to clear his throat "I have been keeping third party interests away from Phandalin. All the major guilds are busy dealing with the Cult of the Dragon and their activities in the Phlan area. Once the Spell Forge is up and running 100% when that wizard finally arrives and figures out how to work it, I wont be able to keep all the third parties away."

Beric gives Wellby a stern look. "I hate my sister for killing my family and my people. I hate her for defiling the sanctity of my god. Rhoen, the kingdom of Torm, has a warlock queen. I do not hate her because she's a warlock" Beric relaxes slightly. "However, warlocks are new to me. They go against everything I was taught as a child." Beric glances in the direction of Simeon. "But I know you are all not the same. I resent that you think I keep Nym around to flaunt my benevolence." Beric mimics Wellby's moving tone on the last word. "I care for Nym deeply. To be honest, she is the closest friend I have and to think of that evil having sway over her makes me furious. But I know that the Old Gods are as different as my pantheon. So I will not judge whatever power you have chosen to follow."

"Droop never seemed hurt so I'll assume you left him unharmed upon questioning. Why haven't you told me about your actions to defend Phandalin? It seemed odd to me why we have had such little activity."

"Droop is a friend so I refrained from doing what I would've done, specially when I found out whose orders he was following. My other actions, required.....more questionable means. Your 'tactician' would approve of it. You and your cleric uncle would not have."

Beric takes a puff from his pipe. "What's done is done. Questionable deeds will need to be necessary to protect those we love. I'm not happy about it but thank you. You've done what was within your power and I won't hold it against you." Long pause. "When I have treated you such as I have, why have you stayed? There must be something more than money and glory *glance toward Lander* that is keeping you here."

"Simple. One of my goals coincides with yours...... The death of your sister. Your currently my best bet at that happening"

Beric gives Wellby a quizzical look. "And how do you know my sister?"

"Surprised, your uncles or your sister haven't mentioned me. Thought your uncles were in Rohen till recently. 5 years ago I was jailed by her guards for killing 40 people, including a lord and lady the people favored, in the span of 3 hours."
Wellby just looks at Berrics eyes to see his reaction.

Beric keeps his stare on Wellby while he smokes his pipe. "Something tells me that isn't the whole truth. And no, I hadn't heard of you. I have been gone from Rhoen for a long time."

"Assumed your uncles were. Was a big deal.  Of course I didn't do it. I was at the manor to claim an item that was my birthright, and saw what had killed the lord and lady. Spent 2 months under the careful ministrations of her interrogators to get me to admit I did it."
Wellby pulls up the sleeve of his right arm. His arm is horribly scarred and disfigured, scars upon scars. The arm would be barley recognizable  as such if it wasn't attached to wellby. The scaring looks like it goes into his hand which is gloved and up to his torso.

"Don't know what it was, but it was some tall muscular monster with blades for arms. Hacked them into pieces and then continued to turn them into paste.  Never got the lord and lady's name, wasn't important to me. Someone owed me a favor and got me out of jail and on a caravan to Neverwinter."

"With your sister? Simple revenge. Though there will be some collateral damage in the form of some guards and interrogators."

Beric starts to chuckle and it escalates until borderline hysterical. "All this time I have kept my guard up to you and my back to true threats when you are possibly the greatest ally I have." Beric drops his pipe and takes Wellby's right arm in his right hand and puts his left hand on Wellby's shoulder. "I vow to be better to you Wellby. We will heal the damage done by my sister. Starting with this." Beric's hands glow bright on Wellby's forearm and shoulder. "Don't give me any 'my scars define me' shit. Her marks have no place on any of us. We need to learn to work together." Beric looks very drained, as if his entire "pool" of life healing ability was spent on removing any scars that aren't story driven. Beric gives Wellby a genuine smile, gives his arm one last shake and releases his grip. "As much as our enemies want us to think so, we aren't alone in this world."

OOC: The scar on Wellby's eye remains, right? If you wanted Wellby to be scarred forever, I'm sorry but I felt that this was a great way to build a better relationship.

The black scars remain.
Wellby takes a quick overview, taking off his shirt to see. By wellby's searching, its evident that his entire torso and arms may have been comepletly scarred. Only scars remaining are the black scar over wellby's eye and an odd scar on his left arm just below the elbow, it seems to wrap around the arm. There is a slight skin color difference from the arm sections.
"Huh, five years and none of churches could heal those. Kept saying it was a physical scar of the soul. Guess Torm decided to get involved. I do appreciate the effort. I really do. So I thank you."
Wellby puts his shirt back on.
"I was still going to fight beside you. I'd still considered you a friend even from before. Otherwise all the work I've done would've been for nothing."
